a piece of Floridas History!
Cypress Gardens Magazine & Pictorial Souvenir
Guide Book
As
you may or may not know, Wanzie is an aficionado of
roadside attractions and original Florida Tourist
Meccas and related memorabilia
so its
no surprise that when the unanticipated announcement
was made that Floridas original theme park
Cypress Gardens, was to close last year, Wanzie went
to bid the Grande Dame of Florida attractions a fond
farewell on its very last day of operation. While
there he met with park management and acquired the
very last case of the very last remaining Cypress
Gardens Pictorial Guide Books. This full color pictorial
souvenir is the very last printing as it appeared
on closing day.
It
is magazine size and format. Its 39 pages are bursting
with more than 125 color photos and two vintage black
& whites. In addition to providing commentary
on each section of the park and its various attractions
(The Original Gardens, The International Gardens,
Wings of Wonder, Southern Crossroads, Island in the
Sky, etc) the magazine offers a superb history of
the park and an in-depth article on the construction
of the original gardens, the Pope Family, and the
inception of the very first Ski Show. Also included
are pieces on the Antique Radio Collection and the
Model Railroad display. Of course there are plenty
of photos of the picturesque canals and those beautiful
Southern Belles as well as a complete accounting of
all the world records set by the World Famous Cypress
Gardens Ski Team. There are even references to Cypress
Gardens Hollywood-connection.
Cypress
Gardens has since been purchased by the owner of Wild
Adventure amusement park in Valdosta Georgia, and
is currently being converted into a combination gardens
and family thrill-ride/ SIX FLAGS- type attraction.
While provisions have been made to safeguard the original
35-acre gardens, little else about the remaining 50-acres
or so of Cypress Gardens will remain the same as steel
roller coasters and water rides are set into place.
The
closing-day souvenir magazine Wanzie offers you here,
will never again be printed, is a closing day memento
of the 65 year old attraction, and contains photos
of areas of the Cypress Gardens which, in just the
last year, have already ceased to exist.
You
can own this bit of nostalgia for only $11.75 (including
S&H). When this lot (less than 75) of magazines
is sold-out, they are sold-out forever and will surely
increase in value with each passing day. More importantly,
if you have ever visited Cypress Gardens this in-depth
pictorial souvenir will provide you with priceless
memories!
