Dear WANZeGRAM Fan,

Only two weeks till Good Friday!

Which begs the question...

Just what was so damned good about it?

Why not live in the here and now, today, on this most excellent Friday, March 19, 2010. And here's one really good thing about this very Friday...

...it's opening day of the Winter Park Sidewalk Arts Festival!

Another really good Friday is coming your way on April 9, 2010.That's when Broadway's biggest cheerleader and chatterbox, SETH RUDESKY, returns to the PH for one night only.

Read all about both events in today's WANZeGRAM.

And in the spirit of Spring, why not make plans to visit the splendor and the whimsy of the Flower & Garden Festival currently underway at Epcot.

If you don't live in Florida, or if you do but you can't afford Epcot, why not plant some flower seeds this fine Friday?

Begin fashioning a bush into your very own Topiary, and in a mere 3 to 5 years you'll likely just have a badly mangled shrub of some indistinguishable misshapen identity - but still, it might be fun to try.

The point is; we just sprung the clocks forward, and Spring is in the air! (At least here in Florida, anyway.) So get out there and do something to soak in the new season that's upon us. Go see some Art in a lovely outdoor setting, or go smell the Flowers, or ride a bike, or take a hike, or take your dog to the dog park - that is right after you order your tickets for Leslie Jordan, Seth Rudetsky, and Wanzie's 55 WEST: A High Rise Church Street Comedy.

It's a good Friday;

ENJOY IT!

Seth Rudetsky: Deconstructing The Brady Bunch Variety Hour

Seth Rudetsky will be presenting an evening of doing his favorite thing: "Deconstructing"- And he'll be deconstructing at the invitation of Wanzie Presents at the Footlight Theatre for one night only - Friday, April 9, 2010 at 8 PM.

It's a new show!

For his return engagement at the Footlight Theatre, Seth will be focusing on the short-lived but mind-boggling series, The Brady Bunch Variety Hour. The show debuted in 1977 and was (not surprisingly) cancelled the same year, but there are nine delicious episodes that merit severe analysis. You will explore: The bedazzled outfits, the horribly executed dance steps, the swimming pool (ripped off from Donny and Marie's Ice Skating Rink), the disco song medleys including "Shake Your Booty," and the hot budding romance between Alice the maid and a real estate agent played by...Rip Taylor. Plus a special section focusing on the moving sub-plot of Greg moving out of the house (in his mid-twenties), and Carol Brady's ensuing depression...all enacted in song. Finally, most shockingly, you will see the singing and dancing fake Jan!

Seth Rudetsky, who delighted Footlight Theatre audiences during his Orlando debut last year, is the Broadway host on Sirius/XM Radio every afternoon as well as a weekly columnist for Playbill. He's been on Broadway as a pianist, conductor, and actor, and has is best known to television audiences as the real-life vocal coach on MTV's LEGALLY BLONDE: THE SEARCH FOR THE NEXT ELLE WOODS.

As a comic, Seth won the title "Funniest Gay Male in NY" at Stand-Up NY, had a long-running show at Caroline's Comedy Club, and spent two years as a comedy writer on THE ROSIE O'DONNELL SHOW (three Emmy nominations). As an actor he played Arnold in the Gallery Players production of TORCH SONG TRILOGY, had roles on ALL MY CHILDREN and LAW AND ORDER: C.I., and in 2007 made his acting debut on Broadway in THE RITZ directed by Joe Mantello for The Roundabout Theater playing Sheldon Farenthold and singing "Magic To Do" in a (devastating) unitard.

Seth's books, "The Q Guide to Broadway" and "Broadway Nights," are about to enter their fourth printing, and his audible.com version of "Broadway Nights" stars himself, Kristin Chenoweth, and Jonathan Groff.

Since his last appearance at The Parliament House, Seth was in London and Liverpool filming a British TV show, and spent August performing his new show, Seth's Broadway 101 to sold-out audiences in New York. This Spring Seth will be featured on an episode of the Emmy-Award-winning Kathy Griffin Show on Bravo.

IN ORLANDO FOR ONE DAY ONLY: Come learn to love auditioning for musical theater, and learn how to get hired on Broadway

Seth will help you get the right audition song and stop singing the wrong song (or 16 bars) at auditions.

These questions are all answered by Seth:

Where do I look when I audition?

How do I end this song?

What do I think about when I'm singing?

What should I do with my body/hands?

Can I sing this song at an audition for (fill in the blank)?

Stop hating the song you're using at auditions. So many singers have a signature song, but no longer enjoy singing it.

Seth's master class will help you learn to

love your song and book the job!

Seth has played piano for more than a dozen Broadway shows including RAGTIME, LES MIZ, and PHANTOM, and was the vocal coach for the LEGALLY BLONDE reality show on MTV. He was the Artistic Producer/Music Director for the first five annual Actors Fund Fall Concerts including DREAMGIRLS with Audra MacDonald (recorded on Nonesuch Records), and HAIR with Jennifer Hudson (recorded on Ghostlight Records, Grammy Nomination).

Faboo Sidewalk Arts Festival Begins Today!

It's that time of the year again. Time for one of the most prestigious and enjoyable arts festivals in the country, and we in the Central Florida area are fortunate to have it right in our own back yard.

The 51st Annual Winter Park Sidewalk Arts Festival begins its 3-day run today - Friday, March 19, along Park Avenue South in Downtown Winter Park and in the adjacent Central Park.

We at the WANZeGRAM feel there is a residual benefit to the horrifically cold winter we've had as it relates to the festival. Quite often the heat is a downer at the festival. Probably not so this year. In fact the weather might just be delightful for walking, viewing art, listening to great jazz, and eating fair-food out of doors.

Running today, Saturday, and Sunday, the annual Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival attracts over 350,000 visitors each year and is one of the biggest and most prestigious outdoor art festivals in the country. Over 1,600 artists from all over the world apply to attend the famous show, and a panel of judges selects between 250 and 300 to exhibit. Visitors can view the various works on display. In addition, there are numerous entertainment acts and children's events planned for the three-day festival.

This year's festival will feature over 300 artists whose mediums include

CLAY     DRAWINGS & GRAPHICS     FIBER     GLASS     JEWELRY

LEATHER     METAL     MIXED MEDIA     PAINTING     PHOTOGRAPHY

SCULPTURE     WATERCOLOR     WOOD

And 5 artists in the newest category - DIGITAL ART!

2010 Winter Park Sidewalk Art Festival

Winning Poster Design:

Poster by artist Ken Bowser (No relation to Doug)

Ken Bowser brings a fresh look to this year's official art festival poster with his whimsical and edgy illustrative style. In addition to writing and illustrating four of his own books for children, Ken Bowser has illustrated scores of other published book titles.  His work has appeared in countless magazines, newspapers, and periodicals worldwide including The New York Daily News, The Chicago Tribune, Time, and Newsweek, to name just a few.

In preparation for creating the illustration for this year's poster, Ken spent a day strolling along Park Avenue, and he translated his experience into his final design. To Ken each element in the poster is symbolic of something that represents the Winter Park experience. He incorporated bricks to represent the quaint sidewalks and brick streets of Winter Park. The cloth-covered tables and bottle of wine represent the city's entertainment and fine dining. The shopping bag and the red shoes represent the retail and fashion aspects of the town. The dog peering into the window represents the family friendly atmosphere, (Although we at the WANZeGRAM feel this would be good time to remind you that dogs and pets of any kind are not permitted at the festival; in fact, they are not permitted on Park Avenue at all during festival operating hours), and the empty chair is an inviting place for you to sit. Reminiscent of M. C. Escher, Ken has created a world within a world by repeating the poster design many times within the poster. Take a good look and see how many hidden messages you can find. See that eyeball? That's Ken looking back at you, hoping you enjoy his light-hearted design.

The Parliament House & Wanzie Presents
Leslie Jordan's All New
FROM WHENCE I CAME

The Footlight Theatre

Sunday, March 28, 2010

Beloved Emmy Award-winning actor/comedian LESLIE JORDAN returns to one of his favorite stomping grounds, ORLANDO, to kick off his latest stage show, aptly titled Leslie Jordan's ALL NEW-FROM WHENCE I CAME. Jordan continues to regale captive audiences by dishing the dirt with his many celebrity encounters and delving into a never ending well spring of salacious stories, both personal and professional, as he did with such recent stage triumphs -- ensemble pieces SOUTHERN BAPTIST SISSIES and A SORDID AFFAIRE, along with his classic solo turns in LIKE A DOG ON LINOLEUM, MY TRIP DOWN THE PINK CARPET (soon to premiere off-Broadway for a 12 week run at the Manhattan Theatre in NYC), and LESLIE JORDAN - FULL OF GIN & REGRET.

His numerous memorable television and film appearances define the Jordan canon. A career pinnacle came with his first Emmy for his recurring role as the caustic, camp, BEVERLEY LESLEY on the ground breaking NBC comedy WILL & GRACE.  In feature film he made his mark with his indelible classic portrayal of the delusional but endearing Tammy Wynette-obsessed character BROTHER BOY in SORDID LIVES, a role which he reprieved in Logo TV's version of the film, SORDID LIVES, THE PREQUEL.

Actor, author, activist are but a few of the many dimensions on display through his innate story telling abilities chronicling his astonishing life and career.

This one-night-only performance of Leslie's all new show is scheduled for March 28 at 8 PM at the Footlight Theatre at the Parliament House Resort.

Tickets are on sale today, in advance of all other publicity, which kicks in on Friday. So take advantage of this special advance notice and select your seat today through the WANZIE.com on line box office.

Also, if you have not yet purchased your tickets for the newest Wanzie-penned play - 55 WEST - remember you can order tickets for multiple events at the same time and pay only one transaction fee.

NOTICE: All three of Leslie's previous appearances at the Footlight Theatre were SOLD OUT events. To avoid disappointment,  advance reservations are strongly encouraged.

Leslie Jordan's ALL NEW - FROM WHENCE I CAME brings the popular entertainer back to one of his personal favorite venues, the FOOTLIGHT THEATRE at the PARLIAMENT HOUSE RESORT.  "Audiences here just seem to get it...me, my humor, angst and all.  I suppose it comes from y'all being Southern boys, too," Jordan quips with that unmistakable, naughty twinkle in his eye.

Invitation to Socialize With Stuart Milk as he Endorses Linda Stewart for Mayor / Events to Suit Everyone

By Jack Dixon

As you probably know, I am working on Linda Stewart's campaign for Orange County Mayor.

We have planned a series of fund raising events for the 20th of March.

Stuart Milk, nephew of Harvey Milk, is coming to town exclusively to endorse Linda for Mayor of Orange County, and he will be at the events.

We would like to invite you to come and celebrate this significant occasion with us and share in the excitement.

In keeping with the philosophy of inclusiveness espoused by both Linda and Stuart, the events have been structured so everyone can afford to participate at a level at which they are comfortable. We are having a VIP event at the Star Tower, and are asking for a minimum donation of $250 to attend that event. This VIP event will be a cocktail party with hors d'oeuvres, and will allow plenty of time to mingle with both Linda and Stuart. Donating to that event also gets you in to the evening event, which will have live entertainment by blue. The evening event will also allow some mingling with Linda and Stuart. We'd love for you to attend both events, but if you can only attend one, that's okay, too.

Details on both events are shown below.

If you intend to attend the VIP event, please contact Margo at 321-663-4135.

If you just want to attend the evening event, you can register on Facebook and pay at the door. The minimum donation for just the evening event is $25.

If you are unable to attend, you can still support Linda's campaign by contributing at

THEATRE - CITIZEN EVE

A reading, under the direction of Kenny Howard. In this fascinating play centered around the writing of the film All About Eve, Orlando actress and WANZeGRAM fav Becky Fisher will once again assume the persona of Bette Davis, which she so amazingly embodied in the critically acclaimed Me And Jezebel, for which Fisher won The Lillie Stoates Award for Best Performance by an Actress in the 1997 Orlando theatrical season. Other familiar actors appearing in CITIZEN EVE include Becky's own husband and gifted performer in his own right, Joe Swanberg, the fabulous Frank McClain, the talented Alan Finic, luscious newcomer Michael Ealy, brassy & sassy Meagan Maroney, the always delectable Heather Leonardi, sultry Katherine Skelton in the role of Marylyn Monroe, and our own Wanzie in the role of Charles Foster Cane.

It's 1950 and Joe Mankiewicz is toiling and troubling over the script of "All About Eve." Enter the supernatural, and things get even bumpier. Enter Bette Davis and, well...fasten your seat belt!

A Note From Wanzie:

It was my plan this week to make the Note From Wanzie a page from our photo album. I have so many great photos from recent events, ranging from opening nights to nights out. (But you’ll have to wait till next week to enjoy those photos.)

I totally sent the Gram into the editing and formatting staff at THE WANZeGRAM WORLD HEADQUARTERS, LAKE MARY SATELLITE OFFICE on Tuesday with no Note From Wanzie included.

I wasn’t going to worry about being inspired. I was just going to select, group, and caption photos first thing this morning, and send them along to the formatting staff at the afore mentioned satellite office before noon.

But things got away from me.

It all started when Sam and I were setting up for the St. Patrick’s Day party the day prior to Thursday, and Susan starting sending me drinks at 2:30 in the afternoon. From about midway through the happy hour party until just about now – 9 PM on Thursday evening – it’s all pretty much a blur. Then I graduated up to a blur with a low fog hanging over it. In the midst of my hazy blur I had an unexpected reunion with a friend who dropped over at about 1:30 PM, and he seemed like he could use a cocktail, which I made for him; and not wanting to be a rude host, I started drinking again…a combination of good etiquette and my belief that doing so would take the edge off. Long story short, it’s 9:30 Thursday evening; the phone rang, and Gary asked, “What am I supposed to do with a WANZeGRAM with no Note attached to it?” (I didn’t tell him the first thing that came to mind.)

So I’m sitting here at 9:45 on Thursday night acutely struggling to write this Note From Wanzie and get it submitted to the Lake Mary Satellite Office before they all walk out on me.

So here it is.

Here is this week’s A Note From Me.

I'm WANZIE and That's REALLY All I Wrote!
