Dear WANZeGRAM Fan, |
Your Gram this week is short and
sweet
Due to excessive Fringing
Along with which, came, so to speak
A large amount of bingeing
This followed by a holiday
To remember fallen heroes
The best way to do such, of course
Is by imbibing lots of Coke Zero
(with Captain Morgan)
To make matters even more a strain
The Gram had to come out early
So if it wasn't to the Lake Mary
office ahead of game
The Bungarts would surely become
surly
They'll be no Gram on Friday
As preparations get underway
For the annual mass gathering
Of red shirted-revelers who are gay
With theme park thrills
And tiny pills
Some GRAMies may fall victim
To necessary recovery time
From things that may have whipped 'em
So be forewarned
Next week's gram will be the same
Not very pictorially adorned
And with missing sections (somewhat
lame)
But short or not,
We've got a lot,
For subscribers to consider
(Like MISS JACQUELINE JONES IN
CONCERT AND COMEDIAN JEFF JONES
OPENING FOR JOAN RIVERS)
So there's no need to be bitter!
After two weeks of short and sweet,
We promise on all that is sober
That on Friday, June 17th
The Gram will be restored to order.
So please relax.
Cut us some slack.
Our fearless leader is, at times, a
drunken hack.
(Or as the Orlando Weekly refers to
him - "Bacchanalian beyond belief")
Good grief!
Here's to the great Fringe just
ending.
Here's to the great Gay DaysŪ
pending.
Good morning.
Good Gram.
Good Green Eggs and Ham!
(Just read the damn thing!)

Orlando Comedian Jeff Jones to Open for
Joan Rivers |
|
Not only at her Orlando engagement at
Hard Rock Live! this very Friday evening
hence, but also the night prior, on
Thursday June 3rd at the Florida Theatre
in Jacksonville!

Jeff explains: "Joan was asking for a
gay opening act for her appearance at
Hard Rock during Gay Days. We submitted
my YouTube performance videos to her
management, and I was approved."
Joan liked Jeff's material so much that
she invited him to open for her in
Jacksonville, as well.
This is a huge and wonderful opportunity
for Jeff, and we know you will join us
at the Gram in sharing his excitement,
and offering your hearty
congratulations.
We also entreat you to attend Ms.
Rivers' live comedy performance at
Orlando's Hard Rock Live on Gay Day
Friday of this week - with opening act
JEFF (The Devil Himself - Welcome to
Hell & Hell Freezes Over) JONES! After
the show, the party is at the Parliament
House, of course.

Our Favorite Fringe Moment |

Wanzie and Sage share a special moment.
It seems that Sage's mom was not as
amused as some would have hoped.
Sage did manage to collect $162 from
fans, and rumor has it that he is
now the proud owner of a new
skateboard. Friends on the scene
also report that one of the
costumers for this event may go into
hiding for a few months.

"MISS P" To Be Remembered During Gay
DaysŪ |
I am pleased to announce that on Gay Day
Friday and Gay Day Saturday, both the
award-winning documentary PAUL
WEGMAN: A Tribute, and the award
winning comedy short A DAY IN THE
LIFE OF MISS SAMMY will be
presented as a good old fashioned double
feature bill on June 4th and June 5th,
2010 at 8 PM in the Footlight Theatre at
the Parliament House Resort.
PAUL WEGMAN: A Tribute
is indeed a tribute to the beloved actor
who, in addition to performing leading
male roles at virtually every theater in
Central Florida from The Orlando
Shakespeare Festival to the Ice House
Theater in Mount Dora, was also the
genius female impersonator who embodied
the foul mouthed "MISS P."
"MISS P" entertained and delighted
admirers from around the globe during
her quarter-century reign as official
Parliament House Hostess and Emcee of
the world famous Footlight Players'
weekly drag extravaganzas.
PAUL WEGMAN: A Tribute
includes video clips of actor Paul
Wegman playing roles ranging from
various Shakespearean characters to
Ebeneezer Scrooge in A Christmas
Carol as well as many of the most
outrageous onstage moments and trademark
antics of MISS P performing on an
all-gay cruise, in the Footlight
Theatre, and on the Pool Stage at the
Parliament House. Also included are
memories, stories, and anecdotes
regarding Paul/"P" by dozens of local
actors and actresses, as well as many
female impersonators whose tributes were
filmed very shortly after Paul's
untimely death. Those appearing in the
film include: Jim Hellsinger, David
Lee, Darcel Stevens, Margaret Nolan,
Susan Unger, Don Granatstein, Doug
Ba'aser, Wanzie, Scottie Campbell, Chris
Guy, Briana Lee, Sam Singhaus, Bobbie
Bell, Scott Carter, Danielle
Hunter, Mirium P. Saunders,
Rebecca Fisher, Joe Swanberg,
Judy Milan, Catherine Goodison,
Chantelle Rashae, Chirstine Robison,
Philip Johnson, Judy Milam, Jeff
Horn, Kyla Swanberg, Pam Baumann, "Mary
Higgins of Sanford Florida," and
many others. The film features many
photographs from Paul's youth, with
original underscoring by Rich Charron.
PAUL WEGMAN: A Tribute
was first screened at three separate
memorial services held to celebrate the
life of Paul Wegman. Donations accepted
after each screening were used to
establish The Paul M. Wegman Memorial
Scholarship Fund for aspiring GLBT
actors.
PAUL WEGMAN: A Tribute
has won multiple awards including
"Best Documentary" at the Fire
Island Film Festival, which is part
of the prestigious Long Island Film
Festival. The film was conceived and
directed by Michael Wanzie, and was
filmed and edited by Jason Piecarski
whose Lantern Light Studios
co-produced the film.
A DAY IN THE LIFE OF MISS SAMMY
is another Lantern Light Studios/Wanzie
collaboration. Written by Wanzie and
co-directed by Wanzie and Piecarski,
this hysterical short film follows the
infamous MISS (Sam Singhaus) Sammy
as she stumbles her way through an
average day of beauty regimens,
drinking, quickies, drunk driving, and
religious reflection. A DAY IN THE
LIFE OF MISS SAMMY is also a
multiple award-winning film, including
being selected as "BEST COMEDY
SHORT" at the Tampa Gay & Lesbian
Film Festival. The film was shot by
Piecarski, guerilla style, at locations
all over Orlando and Winter Park,
Florida including The Parliament
House, Gary Lambert Salon, Spa of
Thornton Park, Restoration Hardware,
Theatre Downtown, WildSide BBQ, an
unsuspecting Chevron gas station, and at
Saint Joseph Cathedral, and Mary
Queen of the Universe Shrine!
The two films will be screened together
as a double feature. Admission will be
FREE!. Donations to the Paul M.
Wegman Memorial Scholarship Fund at
Valencia Community College will gladly
be accepted on a voluntary basis as
patrons exit the theater.

My Two Cents:
|
|
Give Me A Break!
--Gary P.
Bungart
Ok, I will be the first to admit that I
am woefully ignorant about many
things...and religion is one of
them. Every day I read a
Key West website...usually it is
just bar gossip, but on this past Sunday
they posted a letter to Dr. Laura about
her homophobic / insulting /
ignorant opinion. I realize that this
was circulating about 10 years ago, but
with the current events, it seems more
appropriate than ever.
Dear Dr.
Laura,
Thank you for doing so much to
educate people regarding God's
Law. I have learned a great deal
from your show, and I try to
share that knowledge with as
many people as I can. When
someone tries to defend the
homosexual lifestyle, for
example, I simply remind him
that Leviticus 18:22 clearly
states it to be an abomination.
End of debate.
I do need some advice from you,
however, regarding some of the
specific laws and how to best
follow them.
a) When I burn a bull on the
altar as a sacrifice, I know it
creates a pleasing odor for the
Lord (Lev 1:9). The problem is
my neighbors. They claim the
odor is not pleasing to them.
Should I smite them?
b) I would like to sell my
daughter into slavery, as
sanctioned in Exodus 21:7. In
this day and age, what do you
think would be a fair price for
her?
c) I know that I am allowed no
contact with a woman while she
is in her period of menstrual
uncleanliness (Lev 15:19-24).
The problem is, how do I tell? I
have tried asking, but most
women take offense.
d) Lev. 25:44 states that I may
indeed possess slaves, both male
and female, provided they are
purchased from neighboring
nations. A friend of mine claims
that this applies to Mexicans,
but not Canadians. Can you
clarify? Why can't I own
Canadians?
e) I have a neighbor who insists
on working on the Sabbath.
Exodus 35:2 clearly states he
should be put to death. Am I
morally obligated to kill him
myself?
f) A friend of mine feels that
even though eating shellfish is
an Abomination (Lev 11:10), it
is a lesser abomination than
homosexuality. I don't agree.
Can you settle this?
g) Lev 21:20 states that I may
not approach the altar of God if
I have a defect in my sight. I
have to admit that I wear
reading glasses. Does my vision
have to be 20/20, or is there
some wiggle room here?
h) Most of my male friends get
their hair trimmed, including
the hair around their temples,
even though this is expressly
forbidden by Lev 19:27. How
should they die?
i) I know from Lev 11:6-8 that
touching the skin of a dead pig
makes me unclean, but may I
still play football if I wear
gloves?
j) My uncle has a farm. He
violates Lev 19:19 by planting
two different crops in the same
field, as does his wife by
wearing garments made of two
different kinds of thread
(cotton/polyester blend). He
also tends to curse and
blaspheme a lot. Is it really
necessary that we go to all the
trouble of getting the whole
town together to stone them?
(Lev 24:10-16) Couldn't we just
burn them to death at a private
family affair like we do with
people who sleep with their
in-laws? (Lev. 20:14)
I know you have studied these
things extensively, so I am
confident you can help.
Thank you again for reminding us
that God's word is eternal and
unchanging.
Your devoted disciple and
adoring fan.
Now being the skeptic that I can usually
be, I checked the validity of this
letter on Snopes and found...
The key to
this essay is its premise, not the
pedantic details of it of how it is
defended. Simply put, the letter
points out a logical flaw in the
"homosexuality is wrong because the
Bible says so" argument: if
homosexuality is wrong because it
goes against God's law as outlined
in the Bible, why aren't any number
of activities now viewed as
innocuous but once regarded as
unacceptable also offenses against
God's law? How can one part of
Leviticus be deemed as etched in
stone when other parts have been
discarded as archaic?
The essay completes with the
sarcastic rejoinder, "Thank you
again for reminding us that God's
word is eternal and unchanging."
While this is presented as a rebuke
meant for just one, it is a general
reminder that many belief systems
pick and choose their way through
Biblical teachings in determining
what is right and what is wrong,
with those assessments changing over
time even within sects that pride
themselves on strict adherence to
the Good Book.
So in closing, I think my words of
advice to those narrow minded, bible
thumping bone heads who claim that [fill
in the blank] is wrong because the bible
says so are...
You're stupid - get out of my life.

A Note From Wanzie:
|
The Biggest GLBT Vacation
Event is Upon Us!
I'm so excited. And I am so going
to party.
You may visit: www.GayDays.com for lots
of great information concerning events
sanctioned by and/or advertised on the
Gay DaysŪ Inc. website. There you'll
find hours for the Gay DaysŪ Expo at the
Host Hotel, and the locations and
directions to the various host and
co-host hotels. It's an excellent
resource for events working in concert
with, or produced by, GayDays.com.
But net surfer beware! - NOT ALL GAY
DAY EVENTS AND PARTIES WILL BE FOUND
on GayDays.com (Nor in the
Magazine-sized "Official" Gay DaysŪ
guide published by Gay DaysŪ Inc.)
The company has a policy of listing
only those events from which Gay
DaysŪ Inc. profits, either by direct
involvement, or as the sellers of
advertising. There's nothing illegal
about the stance taken by the
company - it just means their
information is somewhat selective
and incomplete. Make no mistake; the
Gay DaysŪ Inc.-produced GAY DAYSŪ
EXPO and their pool parties are
always a blast, but the information
they impart is, by design, not a
complete overview of the weekend
ahead. It's really easy, though, to
log on to their web site and get the
411 on everything they are
promoting, including Expo hours, and
a list of its vendor/presenters.
GayDays.com has suspended online
ticket sales (as is usual and
practical) at this point in time.
Tickets which they vend will only be
available for advance purchase by
visiting the GayDays.com ticketing
center located at the Gay DaysŪ Host
Hotel - The Double Tree (formerly
known as Sheraton World) located on
International Drive and Westwood
Boulevard (at the 528 overpass) near
Sea World. Operating times are
available on their website.
I encourage you to pick up a copy of
the current WATERMARK now on
newsstands and gay bar literature
racks everywhere. Within the regular
paper you will find a handy dandy
pocket novel-sized GD Guide. This
slick pull-out Guide is as
comprehensive as any I've ever seen,
and includes every known Gay
Day-related event, whether or not
Watermark profits from them.
Also included throughout the
Watermark-produced GD Guide (they
can't call it a Gay DaysŪ Guide
because Gay DaysŪ Inc. has
registered those words as a
trademark) are Gay Day memories
garnered from local folks from every
walk of gay life. Included among
those featured are PH owner Don
Granatstein, and yours truly.
There's also a great article about
the American Idol Stars appearing at
the Parliament House in the
Watermark GD publication written by
Subscriber friend John Sullivan.
What's Happening Magazine has gotten
into the Spirit of Gay DaysŪ by
themeing the June issue to be all
about Heroes - which is the theme of
this year's overall Gay DaysŪ event.
Be sure to check out the What's
Happening-produced MERI-COM
exhibition/vendor event for comic
books and collectables (advertised
above in this gram) being presented
at the Gay Days host hotel Friday
and Saturday June 4 & 5.
Within the pages of the PH-published
NOW Magazine, you'll find a really
great GD-related interview with
DEBORAH GIBSON, who is but one of
four recording artists who is
appearing at the PH this weekend.
Along with each nightly concert at
the PH on Friday, Saturday, and
Sunday, there's also a completely
newly-enhanced light and sound show
in the courtyard, Adult film stars,
female impersonation shows,
beach-side foam parties, vendors,
and party-goers from around the
world, for what are always the
biggest parties of the year at the
world's most famous gay resort.
And remember - if you miss the old
Thursday night event at the now
defunct Mannequins at Pleasure
Island, you can meet up with that
crowd - and even some of the
Mannequins employees - at the 2nd
annual PI at PH event on Thursday.
It was one of the best parties on
the schedule last year, completely
overwhelming the PH, and taking
everyone by happy surprise. Also
remember, if you are going to the
PH, you can start off your evening
early with the 8 PM film
presentations advertised above in
this Gram. The 8 PM screenings are
FREE on Friday and Saturday nights.
On Wednesday - THAT'S TODAY
- Miss Sammy and I will be giving
away a $40 pair of tickets to the
Friday Night Gay Day Party and
Concert at the Parliament House
featuring all those adult film stars
and the fabulous Deborah Gibson live
in concert. This early evening
edition of Beach Blanket Bingo is
sure to be attended by more than the
"regulars" and will prove a perfect
way to jump start your Gay Day
related activities. The drawing for
the FREE ROOM NIGHT will occur at
7:45PM so that you my be present to
win and still have plenty of time to
get situated in the Footlight
Theatre for the 8PM Comedy Queen
show.
Of course don't forget the event
that started it all - Gay Day in the
Magic Kingdom on Saturday. I'm
actually going this year after
several years absence - specifically
to meet up with Subscriber friends
in front of Cinderella Castle for
the pre-parade street party/meet and
greet, and then the 3 PM parade.
Immediately afterwards, I'm meeting
up with friends for a "fu fu
cocktail" at the Polynesian Resort,
should anyone care to join in.
Finally - it's newsworthy to note
the originators of the very first
private Gay Day-related,
park-buy-out parties - Watermark
Media - who first produced Beach
Ball at Typhoon Lagoon, but later
sold the rights to another party
promoter - have again returned to
that idea - producing Saturday
night's Stratosphere party at
Universal Orlando, being presented
in cooperation with circuit party
legend Mark Baker. The nice thing
is, even though Watermark is
producing this event, they still
feature every known event in their
GD guide happening that same night,
including all the events which occur
opposite their own. That's called
playing nice in the community
sandbox, and I applaud them for it.
For your added convenience you may
view Watermark's GD Event Guide
online simply by clicking on the
following link:
When you link to the GD online guide
the Watermark site rightfully
proclaims "Welcome to the online
version of the only comprehensive
Gay Days Weekend schedule of
events". And I dare say that is,
happily, a very true statement.
SPECIAL NOTICE: This is not
being advertised in any of the
magazines or on any of the Gay Day,
GD, Gay Days, NOW, or WHAT'S
HAPPENING MAGAZINE publications or
their websites. It's our little
secret:
YOU ARE PERSONALLY INVITED BY ME
- and my bartender/server friends at
the Parliament House - to join us
for an unadvertised, very special
industry and friends AFTER THE
AFTER PARTY - PARTY, beginning
at 7:30 AM in the Pool Bar &
Disco at the PH on Monday
morning, June 7th. I'll be
there, along with many of your
friends, and intend to stay the day.
We've cooked up some great
surprises, including
dark-during-the-day places to chill,
as well as places to dance, swim,
eat, and drink. $2.50 well drinks,
and $1 grilled- to-order eats. This
is meant to be a by-invitation event
for PH employees to invite their
industry colleagues, and their
personal friends to come party with
us.
Can I help it if my personal
invitation list includes two
thousand-plus subscribers?
Hope to see your there bright and
early, and totally unrested on
Monday morning.
Happy Gay Days!
