This
from the September 1 (“Out of the Closet” page 60) 2008 issue of the
prestigious nationally distributed magazine, on
newsstands this weekend:
“Perhaps the most startling and rewarding of Orlando experiences is the nightlife. While the clientèle at Parliament House is mostly gay, its renowned drag shows draw hundreds of customers of all orientations. People line up 20 deep to give the drag queens cash, which they toss in crumpled piles behind them on the stage. I was there on a recent Monday morning at 2 a.m., and as revelers danced their way trough I Kissed a Girl, I couldn’t quite believe I was in the home of Disney World. Orlando, it turns out, isn’t G-rated after all.”
This years’ summit, entitled “Creating Connections”, is an open forum where all corporate GLBT employees may listen, learn and share experiences and practices in their respective fields. Jamie/Sassy has been selected to sit on a panel to discuss issues faced by transgendered individuals in the workplace. Sassy’s contributions and efforts are well received on a daily basis at Universal Studios, which has rewarded her with the opportunity to represent Central Florida at the summit. Hill works a full 30-hour workweek at Universal Studios and is a valued cast member of the Footlight Players at the Parliament House. We at the WANZeGRAM join the PH and USF in congratulating Sassy as she heads off to Texas in September.
The
organizers of Come Out with Pride™ (Orlando) have announced a two-part
set of sensational performances by renowned recording artists Kristine
W and Lisa Lisa, to keep the crowd
celebrating after the annual Gay Pride Parade and Festival on October
12, 2008 in downtown Orlando.
In addition to these free concerts, Come Out with Pride will feature a day full of festivities, mostly centered around the amphitheater area in Lake Eola Park in downtown Orlando. Specific details will follow in a future WANZeGRAM, but early sources indicate the popular festival and vendor area once again will be the anchor for the event. Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer and other local dignitaries are expected to make appearances along with a performance by the Orlando Gay Chorus. At 3 PM, “Orlando’s Most Colorful Parade” will step off on Summerlin Avenue in Thornton Park, to encircle Lake Eola Park, culminating with a "Hooray For Hollywood" stage show back at the Walt Disney Amphitheater. In addition to serving as Central Florida’s largest GLBT pride parade and festival, Come Out with Pride also celebrates National Coming Out Day (October 11th) and the month of October as Gay & Lesbian History Month. One of the unique features of the event is a history exhibit tracing the beginnings and milestones of the Central Florida GLBT community, which will be featured at the main event. Mark your calendars now, and be sure you are in town for Come Out With Pride 2008.
Jordan became a fan favorite for his reoccurring role on TV's Will & Grace of flamboyant and snippy Beverly Leslie, country-club-nemesis of Karen Walker. The actor earned an Emmy for his work on the television series. In the film Sordid Lives, Jordan brought to life the wacky and wonderful character Brother Boy, which he is currently reviving on TV's LOGO network in the series of the same name. If you loved him either or both of these roles than you simply cannot miss this evening of pure stage hysterics. Two shows are slated for the Footlight Theater: Wed., Nov. 19th and Thur., Nov. 20th. We are pleased to announce that this show will utilize the new Select-A-Seat feature, which allows you to specify exactly where you'd like to sit for the performance. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Mon., Sept. 15th. However, as a WANZeGRAM subscriber, you have an opportunity to get in early on the action. Sign up for the special, VIP Pre-Sale Invitation and you'll be able to secure your seats beginning on Sat., Sept. 13th. All you need to do is just give us your name and email address and you'll receive a special, by-invitation-only, email with special early-ordering instructions. Don't miss out of the most talked about show of 2008: Leslie Jordan's MY TRIP DOWN THE PINK CARPET. ![]()
We
are pleased to present the 10th Anniversary Production of
WANZIE’s original, cross-dressing, two-man comedy, TWO MEN TRAPPED
IN WOMEN’S BODIES.
This fast-paced, laugh-inducing romp is both funny and touching and filled with local references that make the show especially enjoyable for any long-time Orlando resident, queers everywhere, and (at the risk of being redundant) Disney employees alike. Kenny Howard is directing the WANZIE-penned play, while Marcy Singhaus has taken responsibility for costuming our dynamic duo as they transform, on stage/during the show, from men to women and back to men again. All those reserving seats through our online box office, for the opening night performance of Two Men Trapped, are invited to join the cast and crew for complimentary appetizers in the Pool Bar immediately following the show. ![]() THE PEOPLE’S CHOICE AWARD FOR BEST SHOW @ 1998 ORLANDO INTERNATIONAL FRINGE FESTIVAL OPENING NIGHT – SATURDAY SEPTEMBER 20th Ticket Price Includes Post Show Reception & Free Club Admission 3 SHOWS ONLY Continuing Saturday nights through October 4th Footlight Theatre @ the PH! 8 PM ONLY $12 TICKETS NOW ON SALE FOR OPENING NIGHT ONLY: RESERVED SEATING FOR OPENING NIGHT (through our all-new Select-A-Seat feature) GENERAL ADMISSION FOR OPENING NIGHT

And speaking of gay Orlando, the very gay professor Lee had a great success with the show he directed for FringeNYC this past month. David’s production of GEM! THE TRULY OUTRAGEOUS PARODY won both the BEST ENSEMBLE CAST and the BEST COSTUMES awards at the festival’s closing ceremonies last weekend. Congratulations to David Lee and the cast and creators of GEM. Monique Byrnes is turning 52 this weekend. God she’s old! My sister Judy celebrates her birthday on September 1st and Kyla Swanberg becomes a legal adult (18 years old) this September as well, not that it really matters as she been doing everything an adult does (with the exception of voting) for quite some time now. (Hi Steven). My Niece Jodi and her family came to visit. I took them around the parks. Little Teagan, who is just 20 months old, fell down and knocked out a front tooth on her first day at Disney. I nicked named her Baby Gap. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Sister Mary Rose of Sharon (Pictured above) is an ex-Marrinol Nun who got tired of raising money for the less fortunate and started socking away a little on the side to pay for her trip (along with very cozy companion Sister Mary Labia Manorja) to Disney. She also made many sacrifices in order to be able to finance the trip including buying no make up. She is now on staff at Disney working as an ecclesiastical consultant for the company’s fifth Florida Theme Park being planned in cooperation with Michael Jackson. The park is rumored to be an odd mix of left over rides from the pop star’s Neverland Ranch alongside faithful reproductions of iconoclastic Catholic edifices.
