How excited
are Kenny and I to be presenting Gay
Pimp and darling music video guru of You
Tube - JONNY McGOVERN at the Footlight
Theatre in January?
VERY!
If per
chance you are not acquainted with Jonny
McGovern you need only log onto his pink
and purple web site to meet him:
http://gaypimp.com
Or
Just type
his name into the search box on You
Tube. Note: there is no "h" in "Jonny."
Or
Just ask
Jody Goosetree or Misty Hutt about
Jonny. They are coo coo crazy for the
antics of Mr. McGovern and have traveled
far and wide to see him.
Actually,
you may have already enjoyed Jonny's
comedic talents without even realizing
it. He's a regular cast member of Logo's
Big Gay Sketch Show. (He has just signed
on for another season.)
Gay
pop superstar, TV personality, and
nightlife legend, "Gay Pimp"
Jonny McGovern blazed onto the New York
scene in 2000 with his satirical mix of
his character comedy and dirty gay hits
and his fire continues to burn bright.
Jonny
produced his debut album Dirty Gay
Hits in collaboration with IDM
producer, Secret Agent Gel.
Together they crafted a collection of
Gay Pimp themed songs such as Soccer
Practice, Lookin' Cute/Feelin' Cute,
and Hey Lil' Raver Boi. Jonny
then created a dirty gay teen pop style
nightclub act with a bevy of soccer/raver
boi dancers, a gay rapper, and fierce
drag queens workin' the runway. Jonny
headlined all over Manhattan including
Homocorps at the legendary
CBGB's, Joe's Pub, Splash Bar
NY, LUXX and opened for Peaches
and Chicks on Speed at The
Electro Clash Festival as well as at
his own white hot parties such as Boys
Gone Wild and The Rambles at The Park.
The Gay
Pimp became an Internet and
international phenomenon. Teaming up
with Broadway veteran Richard
Jay-Alexander (Les Miz,
Bette Midler's Kiss My Brass
tour) and Director Peter Martinez,
Jonny created a video for Soccer
Practice which debuted in the top
five of the National Video Club chart
and was downloaded over 2.2 million
times from GayPimp.com as well as
getting play on MTV Europe and
MTV Asia. Jonny also toured
nightclubs around the country as Gay
Pimp and headlined the legendary
Caroline's On Broadway in his own
stand-up comedy/music/variety show,
You Go, Gay.
Jonny
broke into TV with several high profile
gigs. Comedy Central's Out On
The Edge, hosted by Alan Cumming
brought Jonny's Gay Pimp revue to a
national TV audience. For an entire
season, Ricki Lake highlighted
his comedy and solidified his status as
a ghetto superstar. He then began a long
string of appearances on VH1,
first being profiled on Totally Gayer
and then starring on My Coolest Years.
Jonny also released another smash music
video Lookin' Cute/Feelin' Cute
and toured Japan. In January 2006, Jonny
conquered another format with his weekly
podcast Gay Pimpin' with Jonny
McGovern, the most popular
gay/weekly/comedy show on iTunes.
Jonny
continues his gay world domination with
This Is NYC Bitch: The East Village
Mixtape, which has him producing new
artists including the tranny rap
supergroup La'Mady, ball queen
MECCA, Peppermint Gummybear,
Tranzcore rocker Linda James and
his new side group TEAM PIMP.
Along with business partner and podcast
co-host Martín Beauchamp, he has
started a new record label, Gay/Nerd
Music on which he is releasing his
long awaited CD Gays Gone Wild.
He is also a cast member of the new
sketch comedy show The Big Gay Sketch
Show produced by Rosie O'Donnell
for the LOGO television network.
Jonny
will be giving a very affordably-priced
solo performance at the Parliament House
in January, where he will combine live
singing of some of his greatest hits
with his very gay pimpish style of stand
up comedy.
This
One-Night-Only Event will take place on
Saturday evening, January 23, 2010 at
the Footlight Theatre. Tickets are only
$20!

on sale to the general public.

Congratulations go out to
ELIZABETH MURFF on being cast in the
tile role of DRIVING MISS DAISY being
presented at the Garden Theatre in
February. In the meantime you can catch
Miss Murff in the Grinchmas show at
Islands of Adventure along with Scott
Carter.
Also making
the scene at Islands of Adventure
this year is one Ms. Klyla Swanberg
- who is having a ball working as a
walk-around atmosphere WHO, roaming
through Seuss Landing now through
January 1, 2010. Klyla's daddy, Joe,
can still be seen as Mr. Peekaboo in
the Barney show at neighboring
Universal Studios theme park.
Which
reminds me to apologize to Billy
Sisco.
Billy works alongside Joe
Swanberg performing the title
character/dinosaur in the A DAY IN THE
PARK WITH BARNEY show at the Studios. In
a previous gram I wrongly referenced
Billy as playing Baby Bop. Apparently
Baby Bob is played by a midget and Billy
would like everyone to know that he is
not a midget.
Now you
know.
Seems our
official staff photographer made the
White House Christmas Card list this
year:

Only two shows left of
our Glittering A Christmas Carol.
Tomorrow night and the day after
Christmas. If you haven't seen it, we
can scarcely imagine that you wouldn't
turn your life upside down to get to one
of these two last performances.
There will be no A NOTE FROM
WANZIE in the next two editions
of the WANZeGRAM while my staff
and I make a Christmas gift of a
little extra time to ourselves
over the holidays.
I love and
appreciate Val and Gary and Jeff and Rich,
and I am so grateful to them for making this
Gram, the WANZIE.com website, and our Online
Box Office possible.
I am thankful
to all of you who subscribe to, and read,
the gram.
And I am
especially thankful to all of those who
patronize our shows throughout the year and
our fabulous show sponsors such as David
Dorman, The Parliament House, 903 Mills
Market and many others.
I am thankful
to my partner in crime- Kenny Howard - of
whom I am so proud as he maintains an A
average at his little "skewel' this year.
And also to Drew Sizemore for all of his
ongoing on-site assistance.
I'm thankful
to my regular troupe of performers,
especially my ongoing performing partners
DOUG and Miss Sammy. (We miss you Tommy!)
I'm thankful
to Matthew Arter for being so good at who he
does and giving me the inspiration to write
our current production.
I'm thankful
for the Footlight Theatre and for the trust
Don and Susan put in me to keep it going.
I'm thankful
for Marcy Singhaus and D2 Productions for
always being there when I need them.
I'm thankful
for Glee-Hab.
I'm thankful
that Barry Miller who, among so many other
things, has created the Smart Car Raffle and
I ask that those of you who are of the
praying kind, pray for me to win that car on
December 27th. (If you would
rather win it yourself, you have only until
the 23rd to stop by Orlando
Shakes or The Closing agent to buy your
ticket.) Just don't be mad when I win.
I'm
thankful I live in Orlando and not in a
state that requires snow plowing.
I'm thankful
my sister Judy now lives in Orlando.
I'm thankful
to have a roof over my head when so many do
not.
I am thankful
for my wonderful family of friends.
I am not
however, thankful to be single.
All I want
for Christmas is a good man.
But, I
digress.
Thanks for
being out there and for being a part of the
WANZeGRAM family.
May your
Holiday season be a festive one!
Peace
I'm WANZIE and That's
All I Wrote!
